Very few make it in professional coaching.
It’s not an easy path. I know because I’ve done it – as my full-time work for almost 20 years.
Many people still don’t see why they would hire a coach, or even consider it.
As a professional coach, you either have to charge a lot or have a LOT of clients all the time – and both of those routes have their challenges.
I feel for the coaches I’ve met who have great passion, but can’t seem to make it sustainable work.
The best things I ever did to create a thriving business
1. Consistently share my beliefs, insights, and practical ways to really help the population I coach – almost every day for 15 years
2. Learn and keep growing – education, mentors, reading, studying and constantly trying new methods in my business
3. Surround myself with people who inspire me – professional development groups, improv, fitness groups, 29029, power monkey – stay near people doing awesome, inspiring stuff.
4. Be me – I’m not trying to be cookie cutter, I’m trying to be fully ME – so I find the people who want to work with me and are attracted to my style
5. Change lives – being a safe space, walking with people, providing valuable wisdom, helping them do the damn thing- this leads to testimonials and word of mouth and people who WANT to share how much I’ve helped them.
I started from nothing, $7 an hour as a coach in a gym cleaning machines -continued to upgrade and grow and 20 years later…stronger than ever.
